At some point in time we have all created plans for ourselves. Great plans, big plans, plans for our futures, plans that would turn everything around in our lives. Then something goes wrong, and now our plans don’t map out the way we originally intended. These times can be some of the most discouraging times in our lives.
A few days ago I was in this position. I was sitting in the library thinking about how the plans I mapped out in a particular area of my life, weren’t mapping out exactly how I thought they would. As I sat there sitting in a “pity party of one”, a thought of hope came to me. Maybe things weren’t going according to the plans I set, but I didn’t have to view it as the end of the world. My plans may not go forth how I wanted them to, but no matter what happened, God’s plans would still go forth for my life.
In one of my favorite bible verses, Jeremiah 29:11, it says, “I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord”, so even when we don’t know the next step God always does. It is so easy to forget that He has His own personal plans for us beyond anything we could ever come up with for our lives. When our plans fall short of succeeding, it’s okay. At times it may even feel like we are floating aimlessly in the ocean, being tossed by the waves of life. In times like these, it is so important to know that you are always on God’s personal radar. We never go too far outside of His range or reach. When we are tossed to and fro, God is still in control. With every wave that hits, we are being equipped and led towards our final destination. It may not be on the route we planned or envisioned for ourselves, but it is still the path God will use to get us to the place He desires.
Romans 8:28 is a bible verse that helps me wherever things don’t seem to be working out as I planned. It says, ” And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to His purpose for them”. We are ALL called according to His purpose in one way or another, and He will always work what we go through together for the good of His purpose. So if it’s not good, then know that God is not finished working out His purpose in your life. God will use the craziest things in our lives as the perfect avenues to pull us into a closer relationship with Him. He will use those things for us to look to Him and trust Him for the answers we need to continue onto the right path. So when it looks like all is lost remember that God uses difficult times as opportunities to reach out His hand, touch our drifting ship, and spin it back onto the right course. Each experience, each hardship, each joyous occasion, is just another piece of the puzzle being put into place to pave the way to the future God desires for us. At every road block and detour in life there is a lesson to be learned, a person to meet, or an obstacle to overcome. They are never meant to knock us out in defeat. With each road block we have the opportunity to become greater than we were before we met the challenge.
Don’t give up when life happens, but instead pause and seek God’s voice for wise counsel and direction. Ask God to show you where He is at in the middle of the disaster, as my mentor Kenya would say. This is what He waits for from us. In every answer from Him, there is wisdom, love and truth for us to move forward on our journey. So don’t be discouraged, and don’t give up when things don’t seem to be working out in the way you planned. For God knows the plans He has for you. Plans to prosper you and not harm you. Plans to give you a hope and a future! God Bless you guys! Be encouraged for God is with you.
